Welcome!!!
The Sandhills Sharptail Shootout is an amateur sport shooting competition held in
September during the Nebraska sharptail grouse season, on some of the world’s
best grouse habitat. The hunt invites participation from all walks of life.
A challenge to all, the Sandhills Sharptail Shootout offers the satisfaction of
competition, the encouragement to develop your skills, and an opportunity to hunt
some of the best grouse habitat in the United States. Each team is allowed to hunt
approximately 4,000 acres, which is provided courtesy of local land owners.
Tentative schedule includes a landowners appreciation banquet on Thursday evening
before the hunt, and a trapshoot competition on Friday morning. Friday afternoon
there is a Past Shooters meeting. After breakfast early Saturday morning, you’ll
spend a full day in the field covering the remote rolling prairie of the Nebraska
Sandhills. An awards banquet follows that evening.
Each team member entered must currently hold a Nebraska upland game hunting permit
and habitat stamp. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
An official entry form must be completed by each
team member and guest(s), signed and notarized, and submitted with the
team form, and ALL entry fees, by the team captain. Entries must be received
no later than May 1st.
The event has enjoyed tremendous success, having made a positive impact on the local
economy. The grouse hunt is made possible only with a tremendous effort by the local
community, landowners, and many volunteers. All of the proceeds from the hunt are
directed towards community development and improvements
